I managed to hoard a whole mess of echelons after Christmas and resell them for a handsome profit. Unfortunately, my 51 days of buddy time + $5 steam sale were just running out, and I had to let my account lapse due to RL time and money constraints.
Jump forward 6 months and I find a tasty morsel of 5 days free in my inbox and decide I should check back in. Much to my delight, the last of my Christmas echelons had sold, making my wallet fat enough to taste the sweet fruit of PLEX for the first time. So I ninja'd around for a while and made a little ISK here and there, but never anything enough for a PLEX. At the end of the month, I was horrified to find out that I might actually have to pay to play eve for the first time since my $5 down-payment. I bit the bullet and layed down 15 smackers for a months game time, and vowed a secret vow to myself to never give CCP any money again (as much as I love those guys, my video game budget is nonexistant).
So there I was with a month of EVE and 50 or so million ISK to my name, with no income in sight. I posted in Dodi local asking what people did for ISK around here and got a series of colorful responses ranging from "**** or GTFO," to "scammalot." I decided to compromise between those two extremes and start running missions. Needless to say this was a terrible idea. In a week or so I had standings for L3s and discovered that my large-ship skills sucked, and a Vengeance just does not have enough dps for the job (tanks mighty well though). Also I was making a great deal less than I ever did at ninja salvaging. So back I went to the drawing board. I decided that I had no choice but to try playing the market, which I was assured would bring me untold fortunes. The only problem was by this time I had about 5 million ISK and no way to make ISK quickly. I threw caution to the wind and posted in MD with my business plan and a promise of interest, and lo and behold, investors started lining up! Jump ahead to the present, and I just bought a second plex, with enough gravy on top to cover yet another for myself, along with my investors' account balances and interest. Trading has turned out to be more lucrative and fun than I could've imagined!
